Overview
Set on 650 acres of lush green fairways, rolling hills and gentle streams, Millbrook Resort is an internationally acclaimed, luxury lifestyle resort, and we are proud to be an employer of choice within New Zealand.
The apprentice will gain valuable working experience in an established Organic Market Garden. We seek exceptional people like yourself who are passionate and dedicated to providing high quality produce to our five-star patch-to-plate restaurants. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone wanting to increase their knowledge and gain hands-on experience working in the organic small-scale farming industry.
The Role
Working alongside a professional organic market gardener, the apprentice will build solid technical knowledge of organic horticulture and acquire a high level of practical skills while assisting with prepping, planting, harvesting. Working in collaboration with Millbrook's Chefs, the aim for the garden is to provide seasonal and often unique organic produce for the menus, along with showcasing a point of difference to enhance the five-star guest experience.
Success Profile
- Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to a career in organic horticulture.
- Previous practical experience working in horticulture or home gardening would be advantageous.
- Previous experience in Orchard maintenance would be advantageous.
- Keen interest in Environmental Sustainability practices.
- Willingness to fill-in for Market Gardener if sick/absent.
- Ability to trouble shoot and problem solve on a daily basis.
- Excellent communication skills, coupled with a ‘can do' attitude.
- Ability to work independently using own initiative, as well as an effective team player.
- Willingness to learn new skills and follow instruction.
- Must be physically fit to carry out manual handling duties.
- Good time management skills, focusing on maximum efficiency in all tasks.
- A relevant Horticulture qualification would be advantageous although not necessary.
- Full clean NZ Drivers Licence desirable.
- Valid NZ Work Visa required
